BOOK REVIEW | CHASING CHRISTMAS EVE (HEARTBREAKER BAY, #4) BY JILL SHALVIS

Goodreads Summary:

Meet cute...

Run for the hills—temporarily. That's Colbie Albright's plan when she flees New York for San Francisco. Wrangling her crazy family by day and writing a bestselling YA fantasy series by night has taken its toll. In short, Colbie's so over it that she's under it. She's also under the waters of a historic San Francisco fountain within an hour of arrival. Fortunately, the guy who fishes Colbie out has her looking forward to Christmas among strangers. But she's pretty sure Spencer Baldwin won't be a stranger for long.

Make merry...

Spence's commitment to hiding from the Ghosts of Relationships Past means he doesn't have to worry about the powerful—okay, crazy hot chemistry—he's got with Colbie. Just because she can laugh at anything, especially herself... just because she's gorgeous and a great listener just because she gets Spence immediately doesn't mean he won't be able to let Colbie go. Does it?

and hope for a miracle.

Now the clock's ticking for Colbie and Spence: Two weeks to cut loose. Two weeks to fall hard. Two weeks to figure out how to make this Christmas last a lifetime.

My Rating - 5 stars!

My Review:

I first read Jill Shalvis' books back in 2013, it was Lucky Harbor series and I have been a fan of her stories since then. Her books are my happy place so I am always waiting for them. I was especially waiting for Spence because he so deserved a book.

We meet Spencer in the previous books and he is this hot genius who hasn't found any luck in the relationship department. We meet Colbie in this book as she is trying to escape her reality to find some inspiration to write her stories. She ends up in San Francisco. As she is trying to leave New York in the packed flight schedule, that's during Christmas time, so she goes where the destiny takes her. The destiny wants her near the fountain where Pru's, Willa's and Elle's wishes came true(hehe).

Spencer always has been alone then he meets this group of people, cue in Finn, Pru, Willa, Elle, Archer, Joe and everyone, who have become his family and he works with his best friend Caleb. So Spencer is all about settling down and making a home as he finally has a family.

Colbie has always worked very hard to take care of her family like an adult. Looked after her mother and her brothers after her father left. But thankfully her book series Storm Fever takes off. But there's a problem, the chaos of her family and the pressure of the desires of her management for the series, she has a writer's block. She is looking for some scenery change and some inspiration thus ends up in San Francisco and meets Spencer and his group of friends.

Colbie's stay is temporary but Spencer and Colbie can't seem to keep their feelings at bay. Even though I am not a believer of coincidences, this story made me believe in them and thoroughly enjoyed these events taking place because of some coincidences. They were all very believable and relatable too. That's the beauty of the writing I feel. Because not only I LOVED Spencer and Colbie as characters, I LOVED their story as well!

All the side characters deserve a special mention because they were all so lovely! Elle and everyone else is worried about Spence and they look after him. I loved seeing them, they are all my favourites, Finn and Pru, Willa and Keane, Elle and Archer, Joe and even his best friend Caleb. And Eddie! His relation with the group brought his character in full circle! I so can't wait for Joe and Kylie!

 Some of my favourite quotes

*
“Close out the world,” he said in her ear.
“Close out everything but this.”

*
“Colbie looked at Spence. “Are you sure you’re not in a relationship with Elle?”
“No, I’m in a relationship with bad judgment.”

*
“You’re taking a stray cat but leaving behind your man?”
Colbie’s heart twisted. Her man… “He doesn’t fit into the cat carrier.”

*
“Look at you… You’re perfect."
"Not… perfect."
"Perfect to me…”
