Review ~ Can You Keep a Secret by Sophie Kinsella

Goodreads Summary:

Emma is like every girl in the world. She has a few little secrets.

Secrets from her mother:
1. I lost my virginity in the spare bedroom to Danny Nussbaum while Mum and Dad were downstairs watching Ben Hur.

...From her boyfriend:
2. I'm a size twelve. Not a size eight, like Connor thinks.
3. I've always thought Connor looks a bit like Ken. As in Barbie and Ken.

...From her colleagues:
4. When Artemis really annoys me, I feed her plant orange juice. (Which is pretty much every day)
5. It was me who jammed the copier that time. In fact, all the times.

...Secrets she wouldn't share with anyone in the world:
6. My G string is hurting me.
7. I faked my Maths GCSE grade on my CV.
8. I have no idea what NATO stands for. Or even what it is...

...until she spills them all to a stranger on a plane. At least, she thought he was a stranger...

My Review :

I have been wanting to read Sophie Kinsella's books, ever since, I watched Confessions of a Shopaholic but never got to it. When I saw this book in a sale and my friend Janhvi insisted to buy this and when I read its synopsis, I was hooked into it.

It is, as can be seen in the synopsis, hilarious. It was refreshing cause of its hilarity, story situated in London, British words/writing and I  totally loved the writing. It was quite a change for me to read a book where an American hero is a foreigner and not the other way around.

Emma is struggling to find a right career and being successful at it. Constantly being compared to her cousin(I totally disliked her by the way) at home. And then she has a terrible day and is bumped into business class seat. She finally feels that her day is turning great, only to make it a sharp U-turn, when the plane hits some clear-air turbulence and it becomes a bumpy ride and Emma thinks that she's gonna die and ends up spilling all of her secrets to an American stranger.

Next day in the office, still unnerved by her flight experience, she finds out that the American Stranger is actually the head of Panther Cola company, for which she works. Jack Harper, he was pretty much a knight in a shinning armour for Emma through out the book. Remembering all her secrets and solving her problems and everything. Until he isn't and messes up in the end.

I liked Jack for major portion of the book but he just turned into a twat in the end and Emma was a bit hasty in making certain decisions too and there was some miscommunication and trust issues were there. But I liked that Emma didn't go back to him easily and Jack had to beg. And everything in the end worked out well.

I deducted one star from my rating cause of the ending. I felt it was abrupt even not technically but I wanted to read a little more, maybe one more chapter. Cause its a standalone, you won't get more of them to read. But aside from that, I love the book.

Some of my favourite quotes:

*
“It’s the way he had a cup of tea waiting for me when I woke up. It’s the way he turned on his laptop especially for me to look up all my Internet horoscopes and helped me choose the best one. He knows all the crappy, embarrassing bits about me that I normally try to hide from any man for as long as possible… and he loves me anyway.”

*
“Relationships are all about trust and equality. If one person shares, then the other person should share, too.”

*
“I've always had this deep-down conviction that I'm not like everybody else, and there's an amazingly exciting new life waiting for me just around the corner.”

*
“So", says Jack at at last..."you broke up with Connor".
Wow. So we're straight to the point.
"So", I reply defiantly. "You decided to stay".
"Yes, well...", "I thought I might take a closer look at some of the European subsidiaries." He looks up. "How about you?"
"Same reason." I nod. "European subsidiaries".”

Review ~ Suddenly One Summer by Julie James

Goodreads Summary:

Divorce lawyer Victoria Slade has seen enough unhappy endings to swear off marriage forever. That doesn't mean she's opposed to casual dating—just not with her cocky new neighbor, who is as gorgeous and tempting as he is off-limits. But once she agrees to take on his sister's case, she's as determined to win as ever—even if that means teaming up with Ford…

Investigative journalist Ford Dixon is bent on finding the man who got his sister pregnant and left her high and dry. He's willing to partner with Victoria, despite the fact that the beautiful brunette gets under his skin like no other woman. He might not be looking to settle down, but there's no denying the scorching attraction between them. Still, the more time he spends with Victoria, the more he realizes that the one woman as skeptical about love as he is might be the only woman he could really fall for…

My Review :

Julie James is back with another awesome book, Suddenly One Summer! It is a spin off of FBI/US Attorney series. And as predicted, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

We meet Ford Dixon in Love Irresistibly book as Brooke's best friend and I've wanted to read about him since then. And after a long wait we get his book.

Victoria is a divorce lawyer and cause of her past with a jerk of a father, doesn't believe in true love, marriage and all. Ford likes being single and has no intention of being in a relationship either. Also has some issues with his father.

Victoria shifts into a condo for a summer as a result of leaving her town house due to an attempt of robbery at her place. So she ends up being Ford's neighbour. There is a lot chemistry when they see each other but they don't get off to a nice start as Victoria makes some harsh judgement about Ford immediately after seeing him around. To which Ford retaliates and as its a Julie James book, there is a banter.

One day Victoria stumbles upon a crying, toddler carrying woman in the corridor, who turns out to be Ford's sister. And in the end, Victoria ends up agreeing to help Ford's sister find her daughter's father. So Ford and Victoria play nice and help each other with finding the guy.

They start off with a casual relationship, slowly slowly falling for each other. But struggling with her issues, Victoria did irritate me a little by messing up a little with Ford but in the end everything works out well for everyone.

We don't meet many FBI/US Attorney people, but there is a lot Brooke and we also get to meet Vaughn and Cade for a bit. It was a great book filled with funny banter too.

Some of my favourite quotes:

*

“Audrey’s head spun. “You puked in the alley? Wow. You must really like him.”
“Oh, God. Don’t say that.” Victoria bent her head over her knees and took slow, deep breaths.
“The vomiting seems to be her way of expressing her feelings toward Ford,” Rachel told Audrey.
“Aw. And they say romance is dead.””

*

“Hands hovering over the keyboard, he paused and looked over. “I’m going to begin typing now, so you might want to brace yourself for the onslaught of sexiness.”

*
“Fine. We’ll just sit here and listen to music.” She reached for his phone again.
“Have you heard Taylor Swift’s new song?”
“No.”
“Well, you’re going to—on endless repeat until you start talking.”

*

"He moved closer and cupped her face in his hands. “I love you.”
Her eyes filled with tears, her expression suddenly so hopeful and vulnerable it made his heart ache. “Really?”
“Yes.” He smiled softly. “Like, crazy, awful, miserable-without-you kind of love...”

Waiting on Wednesday #11 ~ Until Friday Night (The Field Party #1) by Abbi Glines

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Title: Until Friday Night (The Field Party #1)
 Author:  Abbi Glines
Genre:  Contemporary Romance, Young Adult, Chick Lit, Sports
Publication Date:  August 25th, 2015

22522202

Goodreads Summary-

To everyone who knows him, West Ashby has always been that guy: the cocky, popular, way-too-handsome-for-his-own-good football god who led Lawton High to the state championships. But while West may be Big Man on Campus on the outside, on the inside he’s battling the grief that comes with watching his father slowly die of cancer.

Two years ago, Maggie Carleton’s life fell apart when her father murdered her mother. And after she told the police what happened, she stopped speaking and hasn’t spoken since. Even the move to Lawton, Alabama, couldn’t draw Maggie back out. So she stayed quiet, keeping her sorrow and her fractured heart hidden away.

As West’s pain becomes too much to handle, he knows he needs to talk to someone about his father—so in the dark shadows of a post-game party, he opens up to the one girl who he knows won’t tell anyone else.

West expected that talking about his dad would bring some relief, or at least a flood of emotions he couldn’t control. But he never expected the quiet new girl to reply, to reveal a pain even deeper than his own—or for them to form a connection so strong that he couldn’t ever let her go…

I'm waiting because...

I read Abbi Glines's most of the books and I like them. They short and sweet. I have read Sea Breeze, The Vincent Brothers and Rosemary Beach series and all of them are good. The synopsis and cover looks good, so I'm positive I'll like this book.

What are you waiting on this Wednesday?

Review ~ Midnight Games (Killer Instincts #3) by Elle Kennedy

Goodreads Summary:

She wears a thousand deadly identities. He sees through them all.

A master of disguise, Isabel Roma spends her life pretending to be other women. Normally, her emotions are reined in tight—but sexy mercenary Trevor Callaghan has a knack for getting under her skin. The elite operative’s quiet strength and raw magnetism affect her in ways she’s never felt before, a distraction that can quickly turn deadly in their dangerous line of work.

After putting his tragic past behind him, Trevor is ready to focus on his future—and he damn well intends for Isabel to be in it. When their entire operation is thrown into chaos, Trevor enlists Isabel’s talent for deception. And as they attempt to save their team in a world where the stakes are high and the danger is grave, Trevor must convince Isabel that the woman beneath all the disguises is the one worth having...

15812170

My Review :

This is my favourite book in the series. I was all but excited to read Trevor and Isabel's story and it was amazing. We meet both these characters in the first book and there Trevor is broken over his fiancée death. And Isabel makes him feel like he wants to live. In the second book Trevor was much better but Isabel isn't in the end and I was on the edge of my seat to see what happens next. And here is the review without the further ado.

Isabel comes back feeling guilty leaving him like that and avoiding him for so long and I really liked that. Also how Trevor doesn't let her off the hook easy. At the starting of the book, I am enjoying and reading, everything is happy but it doesn't last, like all the other Killer Instinct novels it is action packed. Though I felt very sad to see certain things in the first part of the book, rest is good.

With Jim Morgan gone missing, everything is gone haywire and everyone needs to seek shelter and find him. Noelle comes to the rescue, well in Noelle style. You get to know a little bit more of Noelle and Jim(I can't wait to read their book). So with dividing in two teams they operate and Trevor and Isabel are struggling with their feelings.

Trevor has come far from the first book but still he takes time to admit his feeling and there is that problem where Isabel is taking caution and stepping slowly into this. I totally got where Isabel came from with her family's past and all. So it was going to take time as both of them were broken a little.
Their romance was really good.

My Rating - 5 stars!

Review ~ Midnight Alias (Killer Instincts #2) by Elle Kennedy

Goodreads Summary:

She’s smart, seductive, and in way over her head.
He’s her only way out.

An undercover DEA agent has gone off the radar. Suspecting an internal mole, the government needs Luke Dubois and his elite team of operatives to recover their man, and the New Orleans native thinks he’s found his way inside the dark underbelly of Manhattan: Olivia Taylor, the girlfriend of a mob boss and the sexiest woman he’s ever laid eyes on. His new mission objective? Get past Olivia’s defenses and convince her to take a chance—on him.

All Olivia wanted was to finish law school and live a normal life, but that dream was shattered when one dangerous night put her deeply in a mobster’s debt. Now Luke and his team will help her escape—in exchange for intel on the missing agent. But Olivia doesn’t anticipate her intense attraction to the reckless Louisiana charmer or that she’ll be forced to risk everything—including her heart.

My Review :

Midnight Alias is book two in the Killer Instincts series. It is another one of Jim Morgan's mission to take some corrupt, dangerous person down. So Luke, our hero and all the others from Jim's team are keeping a watch on the club and will take down the person they want to when the time is right. You meet Luke in the first book, and I immediately liked him, he is a cajun flirt and very easy going.

Olivia, our heroine, is working in that club as a stripper. She starts with this job when her waiter job couldn't cover her college bills and her mother's medication when her mother got sick with cancer. She feels guilty lying about it to her mother but she can't help it. She has to study to become a lawyer even though she wants nothing else but to become a teacher like her mother.
Then she gets in trouble and results in being debt of the most dangerous person she knows, her club owner and becomes his girlfriend not to her liking.

And then she meets Luke, irresistible as he is, she can't risk being with because she will put his life in jeopardy. Luke wants nothing more than to be with her. He is attracted to her immediately and wants to save her from every evil thing. But he can't help her, unless she trusts him. At this point, I started feeling like Olivia was being selfish and I liked Luke better. He was always there for her and went in to help her without thinking about any consequences, it was kinda sweet.

You get a lot of Trevor and Isabel. As Isabel is helping Jim too.
Working under And Trevor is the head of this operation. Trevor feels a little more like himself as the time passes. He seems better and is handling the operation well but he can't help himself but think about Isabel. Isabel and Trevor finally come closer and the end! IT is a cliffhanger for their story. I  loved their part in this story too.

My Rating - 3.5 stars!

Review ~ Midnight Rescue (Killer Instincts, #1) by Elle Kennedy

Goodreads Summary:

Dangerous. Ruthless. Savage. And she's the good guy.

Abby Sinclair had a desperate childhood until she was rescued and adopted by a retired army ranger who molded her into a master of self-defense. Now, she's a cunning and fearless assassin thrust into assignment after dangerous assignment, using everything she has-nerve, resilience, strength, sex-to come out on top. Her only rule: trust no one.

But when Abby purposely blows her cover in a last-ditch attempt to free the helpless victims, deadly mercenary Kane Woodland is recruited as back-up. His mission: get Abby out of that hell hole.

The last thing Kane expects is to feel a primal attraction for Abby. But when she convinces him to join her on her perilous mission, their newfound passion could put the lives of their whole team at risk.
12368900

My Review :

I read Off-Campus books by Elle Kennedy and loved her since then. And as soon as I heard about this series I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. My expectations were more like Off-Campus writing but it is totally different and just as great.

There are two teams of assassins, Noelle's Chameleons, female assassins and Jim Morgan's Mercenaries. And both the teams together kicks some asses in this series.

Abby Sinclair, our female protagonist, she is one of the best assassins from Noelle's team. She is working a undercover job and she comes across the sex trade operation and to save those girls she blows her own cover and gets captured. She is brutally abused there but she tries to keep it together to save those girls. She cares a lot about these girls and wants to save them bad, as a result of her being brutally assaulted in her childhood.

Here Noelle is worried that Abby is gone off radar means she has been captured and to find her, she comes to ask for help to Jim Morgan. And there you meet our male protagonist, Kane. Kane was patient, head of the team in the absence of Jim and he handles everything well, patiently. And the team goes on a rescue mission of Abby. They find her in a very bad state, yet she has taken on some goons single handedly. And Kane is right to be aware of her assassin abilities. Yet he can't help but be intrigued of this stranger.

Now that Abby is back safe, she can't rescue the girls from the safe place. She has to do something, convince people and let her go on this suicide, rescue mission. and so does everyone after a lot of discussion agrees to help Abby and in comes another Noelle's Chameleons Isabel to help them.

We meet a lot of Jim's men by this point too. And at this point, I was more excited about Trevor and Isabel's story and Abby and Kane's story kind of bland here. Understandably Abby has built those walls around her, cause she has a horrific past. But Kane, he can be patient and helps her bring down her own walls.

I loved the end. The fighting, Kane and Abby coming together. It was amazing.

My Rating - 4.5 stars!
