Review ~ To Love and to Cherish (The Wedding Belles, #3) by Lauren Layne

Goodreads Summary:

Sex and the City meets The Wedding Planner in The Wedding Belles, a contemporary and witty romance series about three high-powered New York City women who can plan any wedding—but their own.

Alexis Morgan has spent the past six years devoted to turning her tiny start-up into Manhattan’s premiere wedding planning company, The Wedding Belles. Now that her business is thriving, it’s time to turn towards her much neglected personal life, and Alexis approaches her relationships like she does everything else: with a plan. Not a part of that plan is Logan Harris, the silent partner in the Belles, and the one person who’s been there for her since the very beginning. But Alexis needs someone fun, and Logan’s all business, all the time—except when a late night at the office ends with an unexpected kiss that leaves the usually cool and together Alexis reeling.

Logan has lusted after Alexis since the day he walked into the tiny Harlem apartment that used to double as her office. But the ambitious wedding planner has always been untouchable...until now. Alexis has made it clear that she’s on the dating market—and equally clear that he’s not in the running. But when Alexis finds herself in need of a date for her sister’s last minute wedding in Florida, Logan knows it’s the perfect time to show Alexis that there’s more to him than numbers and spreadsheets—and beneath the pinstripes and glasses lies a hot-blooded heartthrob. As Florida’s sultry days turn into even hotter nights, Logan’s out to convince Alexis that the fling of a lifetime could just maybe turn into forever...

My Review :

I discovered Lauren Layne's books more than two years ago and have been loving her books ever since. If you're looking for some light hearted adult romance books, you can go for her books! And if you're looking for some nice romance stories of wedding planners in a big city, this is definitely a series you should go for!

Now you get a little snippets of these two in previous books so I was very excited to read this. In fact I was excited for this book the most out of all in this series. But sadly I wasn't very impressed with the story. But having said that, it was still quite enjoyable. I love everything about this series right from the covers to the characters to the writing. Did I enjoy this book the most in the series, no it was Heather and Josh's book, I can't recommend that book enough but I still liked reading this and had quite fun see Alexis and Logan getting together.

Alexis Morgan is the boss lady of these little wedding planners group, she works very hard and is the main reason for the success of The Wedding Belles (their company). She dedicated whole her life to build her business because Wedding Belles is like a safe haven for her and she will always have that but living the real life was always hard for her. But now she suddenly finds herself lonely and is tired of all the work and no fun. So she decides to go out a little, date and live for the first time after so long.

Then there's Logan. Smart and hot accountant originally from England moved to New York leaving his family business when he was young. Logan has been feeling things for Alexis for over 8 years since they first met. He always has her back and she has his. Logan is a silent partner in the Wedding Belles and is a really patient guy. I really liked him for most part of the book but then I got irritated with when he suddenly started acting possessive and impatient. I found his behaviour wee bit out of character. But thankfully it was a very small percentage of book where he behaves in that way and you kind of get it too why he is being impatient. It frustrates him that Alexis is taking so much time to notice him and the chemistry in the air when they are together. Personally I found that little frustrating too but I found Logan's behaviour equally frustrating at that time. Aside from that I liked everything in this book, their romance, the way he always helps her, whether its when she is facing her family or in the work. Logan is boyfriend goals to be honest.

My Review :

I was just surfing through Netgalley titles and randomly came across this book and I am so glad that I requested it and got accepted for it because I loved reading this book!

Its description was kinda making me feel like its maybe not going to be my kind of book, but romance and paranormal are my kind of genre, so I dived in. After reading the first page I got a little weird vibe from Lydon and I think that's what the author was aiming at. But then it picked on and I loved him!

Kalila, is our heroine, she has these nightmares which come to life. She knows that its not normal and all she wants is a normal life. But she is a dreamcaster and Lydon, our hero, has been sent to capture her.

Lydon is a V’alkara. They feed on dreams and he plans to gain freedom by gaining this dreamcaster's trust. But he can't let anyone harm Kalila, who awakes these feelings inside him, he never thought existed.

Kalila is a very strong, stubborn, feisty and sassy character. She will fight fiercely for freedom. and she must trust Lydon for that and he ends up becoming her ally. Whereas their banter was fun to read, it was a little difficult for me to not get frustrated when they were being stubborn. But they grow on you. Give them a little time and you end up adoring them.

I really like the world C.J. Burright created. I loved the writing style. But I am giving it 4 stars because I had to reread few chapters to understand what is actually happening. It was a little complicated in middle but then the story progresses and then I felt like I was on track. Having said that, I really liked this story and I can't wait to dive into the second book because that epilogue has me on the edge of my seat!

Review ~ For Better or Worse (The Wedding Belles, #2) by Lauren Layne

Goodreads Summary:

Will a budding wedding planner and her bad boy neighbor stop banging heads and start hearing wedding bells in the sexy second novel in USA TODAY bestselling author Lauren Layne’s irresistible new series that marries Sex and the City with The Wedding Planner?

When small-town girl Heather Fowler finally gets promoted from assistant to actual wedding planner, she’s determined to make it as one of Manhattan’s elite Wedding Belles. Unfortunately, her first client demands an opulent black-tie affair at the Plaza…in five months’ time. Heather’s days quickly become a flurry of cake tastings, dress-fittings, RSVP cards, and bridal tantrums. But what she’s really losing sleep over is the live music blaring from her playboy neighbor’s apartment all night.

Five years ago, Josh Tanner was an up-and-comer on Wall Street, complete with the penthouse and the migraines. But a grim cancer diagnosis made him realize there is more to life than the corner office. If only he could convince his pretty, workaholic neighbor to let loose, too. As Heather lets down her guard, Josh is surprised when he starts falling for the sweet, vulnerable woman hiding beneath those power suits. Soon, it’s Heather’s turn to convince Josh to take the biggest risk of all: love.

My Review :

First I just want to say that I Love the covers of this series. And there is no doubt that I love Lauren Layne's books. So I was very happy to receive an ARC of this copy from Netgalley. And even more happy because I loved reading this book.

We meet Heather, our heroine, in the previous books. She is one of the Belles. As in works as a wedding planner, well an assistant wedding planner, but she is up for promotion. And she needs her sleep because weekends are her big days.  But enter Josh, our hero,  former Wall Street worker turned musician. Who plays music so loud Heather can't get a moment's sleep.

So they get on this very cute frenemy kind of foot. I loved the main characters. Where Heather is feisty and strong and vulnerable at the same time, Josh is funny, witty and with some secrets of his own. Their banter was very fun to read.

"The other night when you were so cranky, I thought for sure you must be a morning person… I see now that this irritable thing you have going on is more of a twenty-four/seven thing."

Their chemistry is really good so its very hard not to give in to the temptations. Especially when Josh is being super helpful when Heather sleeps in the her friends are coming over for brunch. And Heather seeming vulnerable hiding behind those power suits. As they come to know each other, they discover they like each other more than they though.

But the struggle is real. Josh is all about living in the moment but he is also tired of that and he loves his numbers. Can he keep his distance from Heather? Can Heather?
I really liked the side characters as well, Josh's family, the Belles, I loved seeing  taking the next steps in theirs lives, loved seeing Alexis and Logan,  I so can't wait for their book! Basically I just loved seeing all the main characters in a group. What I wanted was a long epilogue for Josh and Heather. But I always want that for every book so..yeah. LOL. Hoping to see more of Josh and Heather in the next book as well.

Some of my favourite quotes :
*
"I was brooding."
"You mean sulking," Heather corrected.
"No, YOU were sulking. I was brooding."
"Why the distinction?"
He pointed at her breasts then her crotch. "Tits. And, ah-"
*
she stepped forward, bending at the waist until her lips were near his ear. "I love you. I'll always love you."
*
"I love you more than is sane for any man to love any woman. All the way, to the ends of the earth."

Review ~ To Have and to Hold (The Wedding Belles, #1) by Lauren Layne

Goodreads Summary:

USA TODAY bestselling author Lauren Layne is the “queen of witty dialogue and sexy scenes” (Rachel Van Dyken)! Now, Sex and the City meets The Wedding Planner in The Wedding Belles, her sizzling brand new contemporary romance series about three ambitious wedding planners who can make any bride’s dream come true... but their own.

Discovering her fiance is an international con man just moments before they exchange vows devastates celebrity wedding planner Brooke Baldwin's business—and breaks her heart. Now a pariah in Los Angeles, she seeks a fresh start in New York City and thinks she’s found it with her first bridal client, a sweet—if slightly spoiled—hotel heiress. Then she meets the uptight businessman who’s holding the purse strings.

Seth Tyler wishes he could write a blank check and be done with his sister Maya's fancy-pants wedding. Unfortunately, micromanaging the event is his only chance at proving Maya’s fiance is a liar. Standing directly in his way is the stunning blonde wedding planner whose practiced smiles and sassy comebacks both irritate and arouse him. He needs Brooke’s help. But can he persuade a wedding planner on a comeback mission to unplan a wedding? And more importantly, how will he convince her that the wedding she should be planning... is theirs?

27271035

My Rating - 3.5 stars!

My Review :

After reading so many books by Lauren Layne I have come to expect great contemporary romance stories. Because she writes them really well. While I enjoyed reading this book, I was a teeny bit disappointed with the main characters and the story. But overall it was a great read.
Fun Fact, when I saw that LL is coming up with a new series which has like with a wedding theme, I immediately remembered Nora Roberts' Bride Quartet series. But both of the series are different and both of them are good.

So the Wedding Belles is a company where they are hired to do wedding arrangements. And Brooke comes to work as a wedding planner for the Wedding Belles in New York from LA. She moves away from LA because months ago she discovers that her fiance is not who she thinks is. He turns out to be a con man and is arrested right before their vows are going to be exchanged. Yes, at the altar! What I liked about Brooke is even with her dreadful experience, she sees the good in people and she is that supportive friend.

Seth Tyler is the owner of Tyler Hotels, the biggest hotel chain in the country. He is a cynical person. And is hell bent on trying to control everything about everyone whom he loves because he thinks he is being helpful. So when his sister comes to him with the new of her getting married, his gut tells him that something is wrong with the guy and naturally he tries to control his sister's wedding. And then he meets Brooke, his sister's wedding planner. There is that undeniable attraction between the two.  What I liked about Seth was, in the end he goes all out, he knows what he wants and he does everything he can to achieve that.

Now both Seth and Brooke were a little hesitant to go into this because Seth is a jerk and Brooke can't go out with him because its unprofessional for her. Brooke is a believer of happily ever afters and Seth is not. But both of them were being obtuse when it came to regard each other's feelings and they were really nice to each other. That frustrated me. Also I kinda found it a little too coincidental that the situation is same with Seth's sister as it was with Brooke's fiance. But it all connected in the end. Both of the main characters had some personal issues and they were able to deal with them in the end. They did have a good chemistry and I liked their story but I didn't love it.

I did love meeting the other two Belles. And I read Heather's book and LOVED. Review of it is soon to come. I also can't wait to read Alexis's book!

Wrap - Up : Summer TBR Wipeout 2016

1

So its a wrap up on the Readathon. Now I am a little sad that its ending because I was having so much fun! My reading definitely sped up during this time. And I read 12 books and one novella, where my goal was set for 10 books only. I am very happy with my progress even though I strayed from my original TBR for this readathon and got attracted towards Lisa Kleypas' historical books. But those were there on my TBR long before the other books on my readathon TBR so I feel like I have accomplished my goal. Thanks to The Candid Cover for hosting this.

These are the books that I read throughout this Readathon.
(Click on the covers to know more about them on goodreads.)

Too Hot to Handle   Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets  Rock Wedding by Nalini Singh  To Have and to Hold by Lauren Layne
Cold Hearted Rake by Lisa Kleypas  Marrying Winterborne
Secrets of a Summer Night by Lisa Kleypas  It Happened One Autumn by Lisa Kleypas  Devil in Winter by Lisa Kleypas  Scandal in Spring by Lisa Kleypas
From This Day Forward by Lauren Layne  For Better or Worse by Lauren Layne

From This Day Forward is a novella and For Better or Worse is an ARC thanks to Netgalley for it, review soon to come!

I am so happy with my progress because for some reason from the start of this year my reading was slow. And I was reading like two or three books a month but now I've finished reading 12 books and a novella so that is an awesome progress I would say.

Wallflowers was on my list since forever and I was happy because I tackled it. Now The Hathaways here I come! Wallflowers and The Hathaways are Historical Romance series by Lisa Kleypas. Loved getting into Harry Potter World and I can't wait to read further. And Lauren Layne's Contemporary Romance series The Wedding Belles is adorable so loved reading those. And Nalini Singh's Rock Wedding is my favourite enjoyed reading it!

TOP TEN TUESDAY #12 ~ TOP TEN TUESDAY REWIND (FAVOURITE AUTHORS)

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created and hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.
This week's topic is Top Ten Tuesday Rewind, we could choose any topic which was already done in the past. I love this because I only just started doing this meme and it was fun to go through all the topics but deciding on one topic took more time than I expected.

So without further ado, Today's topic I chose to do is Favourite Authors. I am going to be writing only about my top two favourite authors because the list is endless of all my favourite authors. They are all just so sweet and the writing is also good so all their books end up in my favourites shelf on goodreads.
(click on the links to check out the books in goodreads.)

1. Nalini Singh :
Nalini Singh

She is really an awesome writer. I will read absolutely ANYTHING that she writes. Because I trust her writing that much. She had me at
Psy-Changeling series's first book, Slave to Sensation. If you love paranormal adult books, and you haven't read this series yet, you are missing out majorly! It has all these adorable characters, you fall for them in the first meeting itself! This series has 15 books but, fear not! I started reading this series when there were 13 books out and I didn't even get when I caught up because it is that good and you keep wanting more and more books in this series.
Her second paranormal is Guild Hunter. I just fell for this series as soon as I read the first chapter. There are archangels and angels and vampires and hunters and it is filled with amazing stories. And Rock Kiss is her contemporary series. Its about band members. If you are looking for a contemporary romance about a band, go for this series. They are all very popular and very adorable.
Also, she has these newsletters, you should definitely sign up for those because it contains all these amazing extra short stories or deleted scenes of her ongoing series and she sends them for free!

2. Jill Shalvis :
Jill Shalvis

I ADORE Jill Shalvis. Lucky Harbor is my first Adult Contemporary romance set in small town read. I don't exactly remember why, but I wasn't having a great day and decided to give Lucky Harbor series a go and the first book just sucked me in to this series. It now has 12 books but all books can be read as a standalones. Lucky Harbor is a small town where a pot filled of gold unguarded will stay more safe than your secrets. Peope are so adorable in this series, I just love them all and want them to be real people living in real town so that I can go and live there.
Soon I couldn't get enough of her books. I went on to Animal Magnetism. Another great series set in small town with loads of animals in the play with brooding alpha males and adorable heroines.
Her two recent trilogies, Cedar Ridge which is about Kincaid siblings and Heartbreaker Bay set in San Francisco are my favourites too. Kincaid siblings are all misfits and amazing, I wish I was one of their siblings! And Sweet Little Lies is the first book in Heartbreaker Bay and it was an amazing start to this series, can't wait for the remaining books!
Also she has a really great blog! She writes some funny real life conversations or short real life stories. They are all reading worthy. Review ~ Sweet Little Lies (Heartbreaker Bay, #1) by Jill Shalvis

Goodreads Summary:

Sweet Little Lies is the first in New York Times bestselling author Jill Shalvis's Heartbreaker Bay series, featuring her trademark gift for humour, warmth and romance. Perfect for fans of Jill Mansell, Debbie Macomber, Nora Roberts and Marie Force.

Choose the one guy you can't have... As captain of a San Francisco Bay tour boat, Pru can handle rough seas - the hard part is life on dry land. Pru loves her new apartment and her neighbors; problem is, she's in danger of stumbling into love with Mr. Right for Anybody But Her.

Fall for him - hard... Pub owner Finn O'Riley is six-foot-plus of hard-working hottie who always makes time for his friends. When Pru becomes one of them, she discovers how amazing it feels to be on the receiving end of that deep green gaze. But when a freak accident involving darts (don't ask) leads to shirtless first aid, things rush way past the friend zone. Fast.

And then tell him the truth. Pru only wants Finn to be happy; it's what she wishes for at the historic fountain that's supposed to grant her heart's desire. But wanting him for herself is a different story-because Pru's been keeping a secret that could change everything...

My Rating - 5 stars!

My Review :

Jill Shalvis is my auto-buy author, I turn to her books whenever I am in need to fix my day and of a sweet, fun read with adorable characters in these wonderful settings like Lucky Harbor. So I was anticipating for some good story and boy did she deliver

Sweet Little Lies is the first book in Heartbreaker Bay series, and in this we get introduced to a group of friends and they are all amazing. I just love getting into the world JS creates. This story is with a really sweet heroine and a very alpha man hero.

Pru was a really great heroine, I just loved her. She is a captain of San Francisco Bay tour boat, and she is hell bent on helping those who got affected in the aftermath of an accident, which was happened due to her father driving under the influence and she blames herself for the accident. She goes over and above helping everyone. But for some reason, she can't seem to help Finn emotionally.

Finn is this silent, alpha male hero. He and his brother, Sean own a pub called O'Rileys, an Irish Bar. The bar is where Pru lives and Finn has this group of friends who live in the same building. This gives us a small town-ish feel in the big city. So I just loved this setting. Anyway, Finn is a troubled man because his past with his father wasn't nice at all.
Pru has some secrets and she isn't willing to share them with anybody, much less with Finn. But when they are together their chemistry is off the charts and that is why, the struggle to keep some distance from each other is real.

It was a very sweet read. There was some misplaced guilt on Pru's side which she overcomes towards the end and I loved reading Finn and Pru's story and seeing them develop through out the book and I also loved getting to know this group of friends. I can't wait for their books! Especially Archer and Elle's.
For a fun and sweet read, this book is a must read.

Some of my favourite quotes :
*
Just a single one of her smiles could make his whole day. The sound of her laugh did the same. And then there was the feel of her beneath him, her body locked around his when he was buried so deep that he couldn’t imagine being intimate with anyone else ever again . . .
*
“Life doesn’t follow rules or expectations. It’s messy and unpredictable. And it turns out love is a lot like life—it doesn’t follow rules or expectations either.”
*
“It’s you, Pru. And I want you back. I want to be with you. I want you to be mine, because I’m absolutely yours. Have been since you first walked into my life and became my fun whisperer. And you can’t tell me it’s too soon for a relationship because we’ve been in one since the moment we met. We’re together, we’re supposed to be together. Like peanut butter and jelly. Like French fries and ketchup. Like peaches and cream.”

"You don't even know what I'm going to say."
"You're going to say I'm being a stupid guy," Finn said. "But newsflash, I am a guy and sometimes we're stupid. Deal with it."
