LAST POST OF THE YEAR

Dear all,

2020 is now coming to an end, this year has been very difficult for everyone around the world but since we have reached the end of 2020, we can be grateful for our fortunes, families, health, happiness, we survived the global lowest point of our lives and thus we should applaud ourselves.

Reading wise my year wasn't so good if the quantity of the books is considered but it wasn't so bad because not only did I read good books this year, I came back to blogging regularly and started posting on bookstagram this month after taking an unusual-for-me months-long break there and I'm back to reading!

I have a little tradition of reading historical books in the last week of the year or the last day since 2014, and this year too, I'm reading Smythe-Smith series by Julia Quinn, just finished reading Just Like Heaven too!

So! I hope every fellow book blogger and everyone else is happy and healthy in the coming year, and we get to read more the most amazing books of our lives yet in the coming year!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

About ELLE GRECO

I write fiction about badass women (and the people they love). Urban Fantasy lovers will know me as Karen Greco, author of the best-selling Hell’s Belle series. My Contemporary Romance books are written under Elle Greco. While the genres are worlds apart, strong female characters are the chain that links all my worlds. These women are magical. They wield wicked weapons. They play a mean drum solo. They fall in love. They rule the boardroom and the bedroom. Whatever they do, they do it with swagger. My storytelling career began when I forced everyone play “make believe” with me when I was a kid. That eventually morphed into banging out short stories on my mom’s old manual typewriter. As I got older, I graduated to penning bad poetry, then not terrible plays as a teenager. I studied playwright in college but my career took a detour and I ended up working in journalism and then entertainment publicity, which kept me busy for 20 or so years. My “day job” has taken me from gritty rock clubs in The Bowery to glam red carpets during movie premieres and awards shows. My background working with talent (and the suits) in the industry has served me well with the LA Rock Star Romance series. A few years ago, I decided to pursue my original passion and a few full-length novels later, here we are. I love anything spooky and impossible to explain. If you love hanging out in cemeteries, the older the better, I’d totally go on a road trip with you. I have two rescue dogs, a patient husband, and an awesome kid. FRIDAY READS #17 | MISTLETOE IN PARADISE BY JILL SHALVIS

Book Beginnings is a book meme hosted by Rose City Reader where participants share the first sentence (or so) of the book, along with initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires.
The Friday 56 is hosted by Freda’s Voice, and the rules are quite simple: Grab a book, any book, turn to page 56 or 56% in your e-reader. Find any non-spoilery sentence(s) and post.
Book Blogger Hop created by coffeeaddictedwriter, where each week the hop starts on a Friday and ends the following Thursday with a weekly prompt featuring some bookish question.
This week’s book:

Goodreads Summary:

Problem Number One – Getting There

Old childhood friends each fly separately to join their families on what’s been an annual holiday themed yacht adventure. Secret ex-lovers, Hannah and James are determined to make the best of things…

Problem Number Two – Getting Stuck.

When everyone but Hannah and James gets held up in an airport snarl, it leaves them stuck together for four days, making Hannah’s already problematic trip a whole lot harder to face. Especially because she comes bearing more than just gifts…

Problem Number Three -- Falling In Love (again)

As the former lovers try to make the best of the Christmas snafu, they soon realize that the best things in life can’t be planned and sometimes love is sweeter the second time around.

BOOK BEGINNINGS:

Christmas, twelve years ago

Fourteen-year-old Hannah Banfield stood at the very edge of a cliff. Not a mental cliff, which would have been less terrifying.

FRIDAY 56:
"Maybe," she admitted. "But I'm out of dating practice, so..."
"Don't overthink it." "Hi, have you met me?"
MY THOUGHTS:

I just finished reading it and loved it! It's a great novella for this time if you're looking to catch up with your year-end goals, this is a short and sweet romance story, despite that scary looking beginning.
Book Blogger Hop
This week's question prompt is WHAT WAS THE LAST BOOK YOU STARTED TO READ BUT COULDN'T FINISH?
Since I didn't read many books this year, I haven't DNF'd any this year at least so I can't remember the last book I couldn't finish..

Which book features in your Friday Reads this week? Comment the links to your posts below, I would love to visit your blog!

Title: Head Over Heels for the Holidays

Author: Jennifer Bernard

Genre: Holiday Romance

About Head Over Heels for the Holidays:

Is he the cure for her holiday heartbreak?   Ever since her ex-boyfriend dumped her on Christmas Eve, the holiday season has been tough for Maya Badger—especially since Lost Harbor, Alaska, pulls out all the stops for the holidays. Sure, she could focus on her police work and her father’s recovery from heart surgery. But when her dad’s home healthcare nurse turns out to be her childhood buddy—all grown up and the stuff of her naughtiest fantasies—she may have a solution to her holiday blues. After all, Jay-Jay always was the perfect playmate!   Rune Larsen hasn’t been skinny little Jay-Jay in a long time…not since he and his teen sister were forced to change their names to avoid Cara’s stalker. Taking a job in tiny, remote Lost Harbor seems like the perfect way to stay one step ahead of danger. The fact that his childhood friend is the town police chief is a bonus. Not to mention the fact that Maya has grown into a beautiful bronze goddess. Hell, even her serious cop side is a turn-on…though he’s up for the challenge of bringing some fun back into her life.   In fact, if they can navigate a stalker, a runaway yak, eleventy-billion holiday parties and a criminal investigation into the dark side of Lost Souls Wilderness, Rune just may convince Maya to fall head over heels for the holidays…and beyond.

Exclusive Excerpt:

Without thinking too hard about it, Maya rose to her feet and grabbed Rune by the collar of his jacket, pulling him close. “How about a fake kiss?” she asked quickly. “Just make it look good from a distance.” He flashed her a pirate grin and cupped her face with his free hand. “My pleasure. I’m an excellent fake kisser.” “Come on, hurry.” He bent his head over hers, but he still didn’t go for the kiss. “You can’t hurry a fake kiss, or it will look fake. We’re flirting, we’re completely caught up in each other, we don’t even care that we’re drifting on the open ocean. Keep looking at me, just like that except without the ‘what the hell are you talking about’ expression.” She smothered a laugh and relaxed her face into a dazzled smile. As if Rune was the most wonderful thing in the world, better than chocolate and bubble baths combined. He blinked, as if she’d momentarily thrown him off his game with her smile. A personal triumph, she figured. “That’s…good,” he said, a little more strained than before. For a fake kiss, he sure was overthinking it. They needed to get this thing done. She took command and wrapped her hand around the back of his neck. Tugging him down, she offered him her mouth. “Let’s do this,” she hissed. “Tick-tock.” Honestly, why did she always have to be the one with any common sense? If those men onshore had binoculars, they were already watching. To throw them off, she only had a few moments. If the men thought they’d been busted, they might rework their entire comms system. The lead would be worthless. The source would be burned. The case back to square one. And then all thoughts of logic flew from her mind as Rune claimed her lips with a kiss that sent shock waves through her system. Warmth…sizzle…sunshine…all of it swirled together in a rush of brilliant pleasure. His lips were firm and generous at the same time, as if they were inviting her into his world. A world where she would be queen and he would be whatever she needed. A kind of exhilaration swept through her and she parted her lips for more. He gave it to her, sweeping his tongue inside the cave of her mouth, where every surface tingled and warmed at his touch. Fake kiss, my ass. This was the real thing and she couldn’t get enough of it. She drank him in as if she’d been starving for this, pining for it. Her mind—always working, always on guard—let go like an anchor releasing her to drift on the current. She lost herself in the flood of pure physical joy. She staggered as the boat got slammed with a supersized wave. Rune held her tight so she didn’t lose her balance. “I need to steer this thing,” he murmured against her lips before turning back to the helm. “Yes. Yeah. Of course.” She ran her tongue across her lips, tasting salt from the spray and sweet from Rune. She plopped down onto the bench as he wrestled with the wheel. Picking up her binoculars, she focused on the spot where the two men had been. They were gone—or maybe her angle had changed and she couldn’t see them anymore. She dropped her glasses and sighed. Hopefully she hadn’t messed anything up by making them suspicious. “Go ahead and pick up speed. Let’s keep going toward Mount Sage for a bit.” “Roger that.” Was his voice a little gruffer than usual? Was it the effect of the salt in the air? He put the boat in gear and they cruised farther into the bay. She watched the little cove as it receded into the distance, swallowed up by the greater landscape of forests and rugged outcroppings. What now? How to handle this? She and Rune had kissed, and there was no way she could forget about it the way she had when she was a kid. Maybe never mention it again? Or maybe do it again? The tempting thought hovered out there like the promise of an ice cream sundae after a long week. Treat yo-self, she could imagine her cousin Reecie in Anchorage saying. Go for it, Kate would urge. I knew it, Jessica would say. “Tell me when you’re ready to head back,” Rune said. “It’s your call.” His voice had returned to normal. She wondered what he was thinking about this situation. Then again, he didn’t overthink things like she did. He probably wasn’t worried about it at all. He probably kissed people all the time—all those non-girlfriend “girls” he’d talked about. “I will,” she told him. “Give it a few more minutes.” “The other thing is your call too,” Rune said softly, his attention still on the choppy water ahead. “What are you talking about?” “I know you’re trying to decide what to do about that kiss. I can see your wheels spinning from here.” “I’m not—okay, I am. I didn’t intend for it to be like that.” “It’s my fault.” His voice shifted to a jaunty cheerfulness. “My pride was hurt that you forgot the first kiss. I was aiming for ‘best kiss.’ One that you wouldn’t forget. That’s all.” It wasn’t all. She could hear it in his voice. It was so much more complicated than that. Friendship, attraction, sizzle…all that, lined up against her better judgment. But even so, it touched her that he was trying to make the whole thing easier for her. Best kiss? Isn’t that a little arrogant?” She adopted a teasing tone to match his. “Second best? Third? Just tell me it wasn’t the worst. Gotta start somewhere.” “It wasn’t the worst.” That was as far as she could go right now. And maybe it was the best. Because right at this moment, she couldn’t think of any other specific kiss that might compete with it.

THIS WEEK'S BOOK IS:

SYNOPSIS OF THE FIRST BOOK:

Rule #3: Don't stare at invisible faeries.
Aislinn has always seen faeries. Powerful and dangerous, they walk hidden in the mortal world. Aislinn fears their cruelty - especially if they learn of her Sight - and wishes she were as blind to their presence as other teens.

Rule #2: Don't speak to invisible faeries.
Now faeries are stalking her. One of them, Keenan, who is equal parts terrifying and alluring, is trying to talk to her, asking questions Aislinn is afraid to answer.

Rule #1: Don't ever attract their attention.
But it's too late. Keenan is the Summer King, who has sought his queen for nine centuries. Without her, summer itself will perish. He is determined that Aislinn will become the Summer Queen at any cost — regardless of her plans or desires.

Suddenly none of the rules that have kept Aislinn safe are working anymore, and everything is on the line: her freedom; her best friend, Seth; her life; everything.

Faery intrigue, mortal love, and the clash of ancient rules and modern expectations swirl together in Melissa Marr's stunning twenty-first-century faery tale.

Why, How and when I got it:

I have been wanting to read something by this author for a long time and had even bought Grave Minder back in 2013 but I never ended up reading that one and gave it to a friend who liked that genre more so when I found these four years later in a second-hand book sale, I quickly grabbed them.

TOP TEN TUESDAY | TOP TEN NON-BOOKISH HOBBIES

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created and previously hosted by The Broke and the Bookish is now moved to That Artsy Reader Girl

This week's topic is non-bookish hobbies of mine, us book blogger know each other's favourite books but don't really know each other's other hobbies, and this topic seems like will help us get to know each other well! So here I go with my top ten hobbies other than reading, what are some of yours? Comment your post links below!

1. Learning Languages
After I started to learn German, I discovered Korean culture, and now this year I started learning Korean, but now it seems like the floodgates have opened and I want to learn more languages like Russian and Spanish! I don't when that'll happen but for now, apart from studying German and Korean properly, I play around on Duolingo and try to study Russian and Spanish.
2. Organising
I love organising, whether it's my desk, my cupboard, or to-do lists, it just feels so nice seeing everything organised, if only I could do that with my life, lol.
3. Spending Time in Nature
I don't when this started, but since I live in the city, I don't really get a chance to hear a lot of birds or see a lot of trees, forest. So I just love to go on walks, take a lot of pictures of mountains, trees, flowers, anything nature haha.
4. Binge-Watching TVshows
Binge-watching tv-shows, rom-com or superhero movies, Kdramas, Korean variety shows are the top things that I'm always watching.
5. Singing and Playing an instrument
I love singing, I have been learning Indian classical music since I was in 3rd grade, I can also play the Harmonium(Indian classical instrument sort of like a piano). It's just relaxing to play, sing alone, or these I enjoy listening to classical music, I am exploring music by Mozart, Beethoven, Sebastian Bach, Debussy and Tchaikovsky
6. Writing
I might be cheating with this one, since it comes near bookish area haha, but I don't write proper books ..yet, I tend to write a few scenarios in my diary that I come up with, it's not as often as I would like, but I still write under the guise of research and practice for whenever I start writing novels.
7. Meeting Friends
I don't have a lot of friends in real life, just two, but meeting them was like I found some treasure. Since we don't live in the same city anymore, meeting once a week has become once a month or calling once a week, and I enjoy that time the most!
8. Gifts
I love giving gifts, planning for them, I'm always on the hunt to find something peculiar, whether its something handmade stuff or I make something special, or finding some new really good skincare brand. Buying what my friend would enjoy, just gives me this exciting feeling haha.
9. Arts & Crafts
As I mentioned above, I like to make some crafts stuff for myself or family or friends, I'm really good at it but if it turns out impressive, I love to give them out!
10. Cooking
I used to not like cooking before but in recent years I started cooking for myself and I really enjoy the time, although it can get tiring to cook all the time so I don't enjoy it always haha

Do we have any of these in common?
What are your top ten books? Leave the links to your posts too!

CINEMA SUNDAY #2 | SCHITT'S CREEK

Cinema Sunday is created and hosted by escape2fiction The tag lets us, bibliophiles, to step away from books on our book blogs and talk about some television/cinema entertainment that we've recently watched instead.

I have been wanting to talk about some tv shows and movies for quite a long time now, as I love watching movies and tv shows and talking about them as well, but I had limited resources(read friends) to let out my thoughts haha, so this tag will give me the platform to do so comfortably here! Hope you all join in as well!

Today I'll be talking about Schitt's Creek!

I wanted to watch some light tv show since some time now and Schitt's Creek kept popping up on my Netflix, I remembered watching Schitt's Creek a few years back on comedy central, and then everyone was talking about it on social media, also my friend watched and loved the show
as well, so here I was watching it every day for two weeks and having the most relaxed time.

Schitt's Creek is a story of once billionaires turned bankrupt Rose family. The main characters were really good, especially Catherine O'Hara, she just had my attention all the time! I am not really that into fashion but I couldn't keep myself from taking mental notes on Alexis' and Moira's outfits and accessories! Alexis' "oh my god, David" is forever imprinted on my mind for some reason haha. And David R0se just remained my favourite from start to finish.

It is so well written, it's funny, heartwarming and just had all the feels. It felt like they were finding their groove in the first season and from then on it just kept getting funnier and better throughout. The side characters in the town as well were so good! It felt like everything worked like a well-oiled machine. I really like that they were in that Rosebud motel till the end and they ended it there, I really loved the ending, the last episode was just too good! The natural inclusivity of every single one in the society was the best part of the show for me, like I'm sure, everyone else.

Her attempt at a “regular” life, not to mention a budding relationship with smoking hot FBI agent Max, is cut short because of a string of ritual murders targeting the city's community of witches.

But Nina's investigation unearths deadly secrets from her long buried parents. Now the target of supernatural assassins, could Nina be the most dangerous vampire hybrid to ever exist? No wonder she can’t get a date.

Book 2 – Tainted Blood

After surviving a vampire assassin (not to mention an awkward affair with a hot FBI agent that ended worse than she could have imagined), witch/vampire hybrid Nina Martinez is reunited with the full Blood Ops team in Providence, Rhode Island. Her Aunt Babe is tutoring her in all things witchcraft, and her vampire partner Frankie is enjoying the benefits of daywalking, courtesy of a demon spell.

When a segment of the Rhode Island vampire population is marked for death by a tainted blood supply, Nina and her team race to find Patient Zero before the local vampire population is wiped out. But when a demon infestation threatens to take control of the city, Nina must join forces with newly elected mayor—and closet demon— Ami Bertrand before the city falls into ruin.

Filled with fast-paced, edge-of-your-seat action, Nina and her group of supernatural misfits battle a surprising new enemy that threatens their very existence.

No wonder she still can’t get a date.

Book 3 – Steele City Blues

Blood Ops leader Dr. O is chained in the bowels of Steele City, the state’s maximum security prison, and the clock is ticking for Nina and Frankie to bust him out.

Now that supernatural creatures are out of the closet, Providence is descending into an apocalyptic wasteland. With the abrupt shut down Blood Ops, Nina and Frankie are forced to rely on questionable allies to battle Leila, a powerful witch/vampire hybrid hell bent on creating an indestructible supernatural army. She also happens to be Nina’s mom.

Alliances are tested and relationships fractured as Nina and her band of supernatural crime fighting misfits are pushed to the breaking point.

Steele City Blues, the third book in the Hell’s Belle urban fantasy series, is high-octane, action-packed, cinematic story by Karen Greco that fans of The Hollows and the Cassandra Palmer series will love. Join the adventure!
