She moves back to her hometown of Providence, RI to keep an eye on the recent uptick in supernatural activity, and to help run the bar she co-owns with her aunt.

Her attempt at a “regular” life, not to mention a budding relationship with smoking hot FBI agent Max, is cut short because of a string of ritual murders targeting the city's community of witches.

But Nina's investigation unearths deadly secrets from her long buried parents. Now the target of supernatural assassins, could Nina be the most dangerous vampire hybrid to ever exist? No wonder she can’t get a date.

Book 2 – Tainted Blood

After surviving a vampire assassin (not to mention an awkward affair with a hot FBI agent that ended worse than she could have imagined), witch/vampire hybrid Nina Martinez is reunited with the full Blood Ops team in Providence, Rhode Island. Her Aunt Babe is tutoring her in all things witchcraft, and her vampire partner Frankie is enjoying the benefits of daywalking, courtesy of a demon spell.

When a segment of the Rhode Island vampire population is marked for death by a tainted blood supply, Nina and her team race to find Patient Zero before the local vampire population is wiped out. But when a demon infestation threatens to take control of the city, Nina must join forces with newly elected mayor—and closet demon— Ami Bertrand before the city falls into ruin.

Filled with fast-paced, edge-of-your-seat action, Nina and her group of supernatural misfits battle a surprising new enemy that threatens their very existence.

No wonder she still can’t get a date.

She also happens to be Nina’s mom.

Alliances are tested and relationships fractured as Nina and her band of supernatural crime fighting misfits are pushed to the breaking point.

FRIDAY READS #16 | THE SUMMER DEAL BY JILL SHALVIS

Book Beginnings is a book meme hosted by Rose City Reader where participants share the first sentence (or so) of the book, along with initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires.
The Friday 56 is hosted by Freda’s Voice, and the rules are quite simple: Grab a book, any book, turn to page 56 or 56% in your e-reader. Find any non-spoilery sentence(s) and post.
Book Blogger Hop created by coffeeaddictedwriter, where each week the hop starts on a Friday and ends the following Thursday with a weekly prompt featuring some bookish question.
This week’s book:

Goodreads Summary:

From New York Times bestselling author Jill Shalvis comes a friends-to-frenemies-to-sisters story… And then add in a love story (okay, two love stories). Shake. Stir. Read on a lazy summer day at the beach.

Brynn Turner desperately wishes she had it together, but her personal life is like a ping-pong match that’s left her scared and hurt after so many attempts to get it right. In search of a place to lick her wounds and get a fresh start, she heads back home to Wildstone.

And then there’s Kinsey Davis, who after battling serious health issues her entire twenty-nine years of life, is tired of hoping for . . . well, anything. She's fierce, tough, and pretty much the opposite of Brynn except for one thing: they're half-sisters. Kinsey is keeping this bombshell, and a few others as well. Long time frenemies from summer camp, there’s no way she’s going to tell Brynn they’re related.

But then Brynn runs into Kinsey's lifelong best friend, Eli, renewing a childhood crush. He’s still easy-going and funny and sexy as hell. When he gets her to agree to a summer-time deal to trust him to do right by her, no matter what, she never dreams it’ll result in finding a piece of herself she didn’t even know was missing. She could have a sister, love, and a future―if she can only learn to let go of the past.

As the long days of summer wind down, the three of them must discover if forgiveness is enough to grasp the unconditional love that’s right in front of them.

BOOK BEGINNINGS:

Brynn Turner had always wanted to be the girl who had her life together, but so far her talents hadn't led her in that direction- although not for lack of trying.

FRIDAY 56:

Deck, quiet, tough, practical, resilient, self-sufficient ... stood there with all his tats and muscles looking like a pagan god as he gazed down at her, one brow raised like he was thinking, Now what are you up tp, woman?
MY THOUGHTS:

I'm just starting this one just now, as I adore the author and this series, I'm quite excited to read it!
Book Blogger Hop
This week's question prompt is WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE CANDY TO SNACK ON WHILE READING?
It's anything chocolate for me but I don't really eat anything while reading, it's mostly just tea.

He glanced over and winked. “Want to play a road-trip game?” “Like twenty questions?” “Or the alphabet game,” he said. “The one where you look at road signs to find letters of the alphabet in order?” Kayla scanned the long stretch of highway dotted with sagebrush and junipers. Not a lot of signs in sight. “How about kiss, marry, kill?” “What’s that?” She wiggled her toes on the dash, enjoying the cool flutter of air conditioning. “We take turns naming three random celebrities,” she said. “Or they could be musicians or cartoon characters or whatever. You have to decide which one you’d kiss, which one you’d marry, and which one you’d kill.” He glanced over and raised an eyebrow. “Sounds like another middle school game. Proceed.” “Um, let me think.” She rubbed her palms down her denim-clad thighs and tried to come up with something. “Okay. Marge Simpson, Judy Jetson, and Princess Fiona from Shrek.” “Those are my choices?” She grinned. “Those are your choices.” Frowning at the highway, Tony considered it. “I’m not keen on killing anyone, but Judy Jetson’s gotta be pushing ninety, since that show came out in the early sixties. So I guess I’ll go with her.” “To kill?” His brow furrowed. “Do we really have to do that part?” “Yep, it’s the game.” “Okay, then yes.” He tapped the brakes as a rabbit darted out in the road, then changed its mind and scurried back. Tony swerved to avoid hitting it, expertly keeping the Jeep on the road. “Princess Fiona seems really happy with Shrek, so I’m not going to fuck that up for them,” he continued. “Just a peck on the cheek is okay, right?” Kayla eyed him, surprised by how seriously he seemed to be taking this. “Does this mean you’re marrying Marge Simpson?” He shrugged and tapped his thumbs on the steering wheel. “Homer’s kind of a dick, and she always seemed like a cool lady. Might as well get her out of that.” “Wow.” Kayla stared at him. “So you’re seeing marriage as—what? A chance to rescue someone?” Tony frowned. “That’s not what I said.” “No, but you implied it.” She laughed and dropped her feet to the floor. “No wonder we didn’t work out.” “What’s that supposed to mean?” “I don’t need anyone rescuing me,” she said. “If some sort of hero complex is the driving force behind—” “I do not have a hero complex.” His words came out so forceful, even Tony seemed surprised. “I just don’t like seeing anyone in a lousy marriage. There’s too goddamn many of those in the world.” He wasn’t meeting her eyes, which was probably just because he needed to watch the road. But Kayla couldn’t help feeling a dark fog hovering over this conversation. “Fair enough,” she said mildly. “For what it’s worth, that’s very noble. Maybe not the best reason to marry someone, but not the worst, either.” “It’s not like you gave me great choices,” he pointed out. “Okay, you go. Give me three picks.” His frown tipped up at the edges, and suddenly he was grinning again. “Fine. Tom Hanks, Denzel Washington, and Kevin Bacon.” “Ooh, good choices.” Kayla tucked a knee up under her. “At their current ages, or do I get to choose my favorite roles they’ve played?” “Current ages,” Tony said definitively. Kayla laughed. “Says the guy who killed a geriatric Judy Jetson. Okay, I’m going to go ahead and kill Kevin Bacon. I never forgave him for being the guy who cheated with Julianne Moore and broke Steve Carell’s heart.” “Which movie was that?” Crazy, Stupid, Love,” she said. “A brilliant—and dare I say highly underrated—romantic comedy.” He glanced over at her. “How come you’ve never made me watch it?” “The fact that you just said made you watch it is exactly why,” she said. “I don’t want your machismo sullying a movie so near and dear to my heart.” “I’m wounded,” Tony deadpanned. “For the record, I’m a sensitive guy who digs the occasional rom-com.” “I’ll keep that in mind.” Kayla got back to considering her options in the game. “Okay, so it comes down to Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington. Both are brilliant actors. Tom’s got a great mix between comedy and drama, where Denzel is a little more serious. But Denzel has the sex appeal thing going for him, while Tom just doesn’t curl my toes.” Tony gave a low whistle. “Nice in-depth analysis.” “Thanks.” She grinned. “You set the bar high with your thoughtful response.” “Yeah, but you’re better at it than I am.” She shrugged and grabbed her Hydro Flask to take a swig of water. “I do tend to overanalyze relationships.” Could be why she hadn’t managed to find her soul mate. “Not that it’s gotten me to the finish line.” He frowned. “What the hell is the finish line?” “Marriage. Babies. All the things you claim not to want but secretly might.” He gave her a pained look and eased over to slip by a truck hauling huge bales of hay. “This bet is going to be the death of me. You’re going to spend the next couple weeks fiddling around in my brain, aren’t you?” “Not if you don’t want me to.” She studied the side of his face as he steered them safely in front of the hay truck. “I just think a road trip is a perfect time for self-reflection.” “Whatever you say.” “Okay. So kiss, marry, kill.” She forced her brain back to the game. “I think I’m going to marry Denzel. The way he owned up to all his mistakes at the end of Flight seals the deal.” Tony shifted his eyes off the road and looked at her. “That seems noteworthy, don’t you think?” “How do you figure?” “He played a raging asshole for 97 percent of that movie. But you focus on the redemption scene at the end.” He flashed her a grin. “It’s actually kind of sweet.” She felt her forehead creasing. “Are you calling me a Pollyanna?” “Hey, I didn’t say it. You did.” Kayla rolled her eyes. “Is it too late to play the alphabet game?” He laughed and picked up his cup of McDonald’s iced tea. “I’m sensing a trend here. We can play whatever you want, sweetheart.” She dropped her foot to the floor and grabbed her own cup of soda. “I spy with my little eye…”

About ELLE GRECO

I write fiction about badass women (and the people they love). Urban Fantasy lovers will know me as Karen Greco, author of the best-selling Hell’s Belle series. My Contemporary Romance books are written under Elle Greco. While the genres are worlds apart, strong female characters are the chain that links all my worlds. These women are magical. They wield wicked weapons. They play a mean drum solo. They fall in love. They rule the boardroom and the bedroom. Whatever they do, they do it with swagger. My storytelling career began when I forced everyone play “make believe” with me when I was a kid. That eventually morphed into banging out short stories on my mom’s old manual typewriter. As I got older, I graduated to penning bad poetry, then not terrible plays as a teenager. I studied playwright in college but my career took a detour and I ended up working in journalism and then entertainment publicity, which kept me busy for 20 or so years. My “day job” has taken me from gritty rock clubs in The Bowery to glam red carpets during movie premieres and awards shows. My background working with talent (and the suits) in the industry has served me well with the LA Rock Star Romance series. A few years ago, I decided to pursue my original passion and a few full-length novels later, here we are. I love anything spooky and impossible to explain. If you love hanging out in cemeteries, the older the better, I’d totally go on a road trip with you. I have two rescue dogs, a patient husband, and an awesome kid. Pretty girls in pretty dresses, partying until dawn. Irresistible boys with mischievous smiles and dangerous intentions. White lies, dark secrets, and scandalous hookups. This is Manhattan, 1899. Beautiful sisters Elizabeth and Diana Holland rule Manhattan's social scene. Or so it appears. When the girls discover their status among New York City's elite is far from secure, suddenly everyone--from the backstabbing socialite Penelope Hayes, to the debonair bachelor Henry Schoonmaker, to the spiteful maid Lina Broud--threatens Elizabeth's and Diana's golden future. With the fate of the Hollands resting on her shoulders, Elizabeth must choose between family duty and true love. But when her carriage overturns near the East River, the girl whose glittering life lit up the city's gossip pages is swallowed by the rough current. As all of New York grieves, some begin to wonder whether life at the top proved too much for this ethereal beauty, or if, perhaps, someone wanted to see Manhattan's most celebrated daughter disappear... In a world of luxury and deception, where appearance matters above everything and breaking the social code means running the risk of being ostracized forever, five teenagers lead dangerously scandalous lives. This thrilling trip to the age of innocence is anything but innocent.

How and when I got it:

I got the three books in a second-hand book sale but haven't found the fourth and final book in this series yet.

Why I want to read it:

I have only read Britain based historicals until now, so I was excited to have found a historical series based in America and that too, New York but I kept on putting in on hold because of the fourth book, I just may have to buy the fourth book in ebook format and start reading this series.

COVER REVEAL | DATE ME LIKE YOU MEAN IT BY R.S. GREY

R.S. Grey’s next standalone romcom, Date Me Like You Mean It, is coming out November 5th! Check it out and be sure to grab yours November 5th!

Title: Date Me Like You Mean It

Author: R.S. Grey

Genre: Rom-Com

Release Date: November 5th

About Dare Me Like You Mean It:

I’m good at hiding my feelings. Having to pretend I’m not in love with my best friend? Pfft. That’s child’s play. Here’s how I do it: I avert my eyes when he walks out of his room, shirtless in all his toned glory. I squash the butterflies that fill my stomach every time he slowly unfurls a dimpled smile. And, most importantly, I keep an arsenal of “personal massagers” in my bedside drawer. Wink. Not to brag, but Aiden Smith isn’t hard to resist if you’ve been doing it for as long as I have. In fact, we might have continued as best friends forever if not for the fact that I needed him to play the part of my fake boyfriend. Date me like you mean it, I told him. Nudge nudge. C’mon, just go along with a little lie, help a girl out, and then we can all return to life as we know it. Except he veered from the plan. He crossed the line. Flirting with me when no one else was around? Pinning me down and kissing me like that? Okay, how exactly is taking off my bra part of the ruse, Aiden?! I’d ask him about it if I could, but well…things got ugly and we’re not best friends anymore. In fact, we’re the exact opposite. Now, I have to play nice even though I want to crush his heart in the palm of my hand. Pretending not to love Aiden was the easy part. Pretending not to hate him? Well…I might need a little more practice.

FRIDAY READS #15 | EMMA BY JANE AUSTEN

Emma, first published in 1816, was written when Jane Austen was at the height of her powers. In a novel remarkable for its sparkling wit and modernity, Austen presents readers with two of literature's greatest comic creations--the eccentric Mr. Woodhouse and that quintessential bore, Miss Bates. Here, too, we have what may well be Jane Austen's most profound characterization: the witty, imaginative, self-deluded Emma, a heroine the author declared "no one but myself will much like," but who has been much loved by generations of readers. Delightfully funny, full of rich irony, Emma is regarded as one of Jane Austen's finest achievements.

BOOK BEGINNINGS:

Emma Woodhouse, handsome, clever, and rich, with a comfortable home and happy disposition, seemed to unite some of the best blessings of existence; and had lived nearly twenty-one years in the world with very little to distress or vex her.

FRIDAY 56:

Vanity working on a weak head, produces every sort of mischief.
MY THOUGHTS:

It's an okay read. I think I liked Pride and Prejudice better and that's the only classic I've read. I'm a classic newbie, so I'm just going with flow right now.
Book Blogger Hop
This week's question prompt is WOULD YOU CONSIDER GIVING OUT BOOKS TO TRICK-OR-TREATERS INSTEAD OF CANDY?
I want to say no because hmm, who wouldn't want candies at that age, but as I look at my unread, some untouched, some I won't reread books sitting on the shelf just like that, I find myself changing the answer to yes if the kids want it, I would probably keep candies and then books as an option, they can choose any book they want and take it WITH the candy and not instead. Oh, that would be so much fun! How I wish we did Halloween where I live now!!

Which book features in your Friday Reads below? Comment the links below, I would love to visit your blog!

CINEMA SUNDAY # 1 | WHEN THE CAMELLIA BLOOMS

Cinema Sunday is created and hosted by escape2fiction The tag lets us, bibliophiles, to step away from books on our book blogs and talk about some television/cinema entertainment that we've recently watched instead.

I have been wanting to talk about some tv shows and movies for quite a long time now, as I love watching movies and tv shows and talking about them as well, but I had limited resources(read friends) to let out my thoughts haha, so this tag will give me the platform to do so comfortably here! Hope you all join in as well!

Today I'll talk about the KDrama I watched this week on Netflix, When the Camellia Blooms.

Dong Baek, a single mother comes to Ongsan, a small town, with her son to find some solace and a sense of belonging. Although the community doesn't accept her completely, she sets up a bar in the town, which quickly becomes a place for town's men to hang out way too much to their wives' disappointment, which leads to more hostility from the town's people towards our FL.

Enter our Main Lead, Hwang Yong Sik, a very dedicated police officer, with a simple mindset of putting bad people behind the bars is in search of his "Princess Diana". With not much luck in Seoul, he is demoted and is back in his hometown, where he sees and falls for Dong Baek. Hwang Yong Sik, a country bumpkin, is pure at times, but so very determined when he's set on his path, also very protective of his loved ones.

Dong Baek at first is very timid and shy, and is not very confident, slowly she grows and becomes a better version of herself in each episode. Hwang Yong Sik was very supportive of her and brings her out of her shell and shows her the joys of life. He is definitely one of best kdrama boyfriends hands down! You may expect there to be some sweet small town people but here they take their sweet time to become sweet, you do like them though.

The drama has a mixture of genres,

some humor

mixed with some mystery with a serial killer called 'Joker' on the lose

and some romance

and some emotional tearjerker feels to melt your heart.

It starts out slow, I even questioned whether to continue watching it after two-three episodes, but I'm so glad that I did because it really is a great drama and it just gets better and better like aged wine. With a solid cast, main and supportive, killer storyline, characters, concept, everything is very fresh. It is not your average conventional romance story for sure.

STACKING THE SHELVES #16

Stacking The Shelves is hosted by  Tynga's Reviews and Reading Reality it's all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

(Click on the links to go to the Goodreads pages of the mentioned books)

I had bought this book in a second book store in hardcover years ago but still haven't gotten to reading it so this week I also bought an ebook version of it so that I divide reading between the two versions fitting to my convenience.

I have read the first two books and loved it but for some reason, I never finished reading the last two so bought the last two books in this series.

I read the first book, Sugar Daddy a long time ago and remember liking it but I didn't finish reading the series and recently I was missing Lisa Kleypas' contemporary books so got the rest of the series in ebooks as well.

I have read the first book in this series as well and since I love Julia Quinn since I read her Bridgerton series, I was missing her books and decided to finish this series!

This week it seems like I was on a mission to complete my incomplete series, hopefully, I finish reading them as well!
These are the new addition to my shelf. I would love to know about yours so comment your post links down below!

Traveling from the south, Mya and her family arrive at Kol’s camp with a trail of hurt and loss behind them, and hope for a new beginning. When Kol meets Mya, her strength, independence, and beauty instantly captivate him, igniting a desire for much more than survival.

Then on a hunt, Kol makes a grave mistake that jeopardizes the relationship that he and Mya have only just started to build. Mya was guarded to begin with—and for good reason—but no apology or gesture is enough for her to forgive him. Soon after, another clan arrives on their shores. And when Mya spots Lo, a daughter of this new clan, her anger intensifies, adding to the already simmering tension between families. After befriending Lo, Kol learns of a dark history between Lo and Mya that is rooted in the tangle of their pasts.

When violence erupts, Kol is forced to choose between fighting alongside Mya or trusting Lo’s claims. And when things quickly turn deadly, it becomes clear that this was a war that one of them had been planning all along.

How and when I got it:

I won this pretty hardcover in a bookish box giveaway on Instagram in 2015!! I have been wanting to read it ever since then but I, unfortunately, haven't gotten to it yet.

Why I want to read it:

I actually got to know about this book by accident because of a bookish box giveaway and I really liked the synopsis then too. I am feeling reading a hardcover this week so I'm hoping to finally pick it up this week!

FRIDAY READS #14 | ALMOST JUST FRIENDS (WILDSTONE, #4) BY JILL SHALVIS

This week’s book:

Goodreads Summary:

New York Times bestselling author Jill Shalvis returns to Wildstone with the touching story of finding your place in the world—and the people who make it home.

Piper Manning’s about as tough as they come, she’s had to be. She raised her siblings and they’ve thankfully flown the coop. All she has to do is finish fixing up the lake house her grandparents left her, sell it, and then she’s free.

When a massive storm hits, she runs into a tall, dark and brooding stranger, Camden Reid. There’s a spark there, one that shocks her. Surprising her further, her sister and brother return, each of them holding their own secrets. The smart move would be for Piper to ignore them all but Cam unleashes emotions deep inside of her that she can’t deny, making her yearn for something she doesn’t understand. And her siblings…well, they need each other.

Only when the secrets come out, it changes everything Piper thinks she knows about her family, herself…and Cam. Can she find a way to outrun the demons? The answer is closer than she thinks—just as the new life she craves may have already begun.

BOOK BEGINNINGS:

Piper Manning closed her eyes and plugged her ears against the horror. She’d known this would happen even as she’d begged against it, but sometimes there was no stopping fate. She shook her head. You’ve survived worse. Just push through it. Pretend you’re on a warm beach, and there’s a hot surfer coming out of the water. Wait, scratch that. A hot Australian...

FRIDAY 56:

“Yeah,” she said. “Look at me adulting, right? But Piper’s not trying to run from us. She’s just trying to get herself a life now that we have one.” She looked at Gavin. “I thought if I got a loan and paid her for her third of the property, she could go away to school in Colorado like she wants. And then maybe we could stay and rent the cottages out, like you thought about doing, and . . . I don’t know . . . do a B and B thing.”
MY THOUGHTS:

If I could, I would totally do a B and B thing with my sister too!
I love the sibling trio in this book. I am enjoying this one like every other Jill Shalvis book. This book has more intriguing factors though so I am enjoying it.
