FRIDAY READS #18 | A NIGHT LIKE THIS(SMYTHE-SMITH, #2) BY JULIA QUINN

Book Beginnings is a book meme hosted by Rose City Reader where participants share the first sentence (or so) of the book, along with initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires.

The Friday 56 is hosted by Freda’s Voice, and the rules are quite simple: Grab a book, any book, turn to page 56 or 56% in your e-reader. Find any non-spoilery sentence(s) and post.
Book Blogger Hop created by coffeeaddictedwriter, where each week the hop starts on a Friday and ends the following Thursday with a weekly prompt featuring some bookish question.
This week’s book:

Goodreads Summary:

Anne Wynter might not be who she says she is...

But she's managing quite well as a governess to three highborn young ladies. Her job can be a challenge—in a single week she finds herself hiding in a closet full of tubas, playing an evil queen in a play that might be a tragedy (or might be a comedy—no one is sure), and tending to the wounds of the oh-so-dashing Earl of Winstead. After years of dodging unwanted advances, he's the first man who has truly tempted her, and it's getting harder and harder to remind herself that a governess has no business flirting with a nobleman.

Daniel Smythe-Smith Might be in mortal danger...

But that's not going to stop the young earl from falling in love. And when he spies a mysterious woman at his family's annual musicale, he vows to pursue her, even if that means spending his days with a ten-year-old who thinks she's a unicorn. But Daniel has an enemy, one who has vowed to see him dead. And when Anne is thrown into peril, he will stop at nothing to ensure their happy ending...

BOOK BEGINNINGS:

"Winstead, you bloody cheat!" Daniel Smythe-Smith blinked. He was a little bit drunk, but he thought someone had just accused him of cheating at cards.

FRIDAY 56:
"She's already threatened to take me to the country for a week. For rest and recuperation."
He swallowed a chuckle. "She's concerned about you."
MY THOUGHTS:

I loved the first book and I'm currently reading this one and liking it as well! Julia Quinn is hilarious! I love the humor!
Book Blogger Hop
This week's question prompt is Do you share books? If so, do you have a system to keep track of whom you lend books to?
I did a few times in school and then I didn't have a proper collection of books and lost them, so when I started collecting books properly in college I never shared since then.

Which book features in your Friday Reads this week? Comment the links to your posts below, I would love to visit your blog!

When the daughter of the US Ambassador to Argentina is kidnapped in broad daylight on Christmas Eve, the FBI sends one of its best negotiators to investigate. Supervisory Special Agent Max Hawthorne arrives at an embassy thrown into chaos as US and local law enforcement hustle to track the young woman. Is this a simple kidnap for ransom, or part of a political agenda? Could it be something more sinister? Lucy Aston has something to hide. Preferring to stay in the shadows, the lowly, fashion-challenged office assistant resents being assigned to help Max. But Max can’t resist a puzzle…he’s starting to suspect Lucy Aston is not what she seems. When rumors emerge of a suspected Russian spy operating out of the embassy, Lucy’s carefully constructed life begins to crumble. As she and Max race to rescue the ambassador’s daughter, Lucy has to do whatever it takes to keep her cover from being blown—even if that means betraying the man she’s falling for.

AUTHOR INFORMATION:

Toni Anderson writes award-winning, bestselling, FBI Romantic Thrillers. She is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, RITA® finalist, science nerd, professional tourist, dog lover, gardener, mom. Anderson's books have won the Readers' Choice Award, Aspen Gold, National Excellence in Romance Fiction, Book Buyers' Best.

Originally from a small town in Shropshire, England, Toni studied Marine Biology at University of Liverpool (B.Sc.) and University of St. Andrews (Ph.D.) with the intention she'd never be far from the ocean. Well, that plan backfired and she ended up in the Canadian prairies with her biology professor husband, two kids, a rescue dog, and a laid-back leopard gecko.

Toni started writing while pregnant with her first child and never stopped. Her greatest achievements are mastering the Tokyo subway, climbing Ben Lomond, snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef, and surviving fifteen Winnipeg winters (fingers crossed). She loves to travel for research purposes and was lucky enough to visit the Strategic Information and Operations Center inside FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C. in 2016. She also got to shove another (police) car off the road during pursuit training at the Writer’s Police Academy. Basically she has way too much fun!

LAST POST OF THE YEAR

Dear all,

2020 is now coming to an end, this year has been very difficult for everyone around the world but since we have reached the end of 2020, we can be grateful for our fortunes, families, health, happiness, we survived the global lowest point of our lives and thus we should applaud ourselves.

Reading wise my year wasn't so good if the quantity of the books is considered but it wasn't so bad because not only did I read good books this year, I came back to blogging regularly and started posting on bookstagram this month after taking an unusual-for-me months-long break there and I'm back to reading!

I have a little tradition of reading historical books in the last week of the year or the last day since 2014, and this year too, I'm reading Smythe-Smith series by Julia Quinn, just finished reading Just Like Heaven too!

So! I hope every fellow book blogger and everyone else is happy and healthy in the coming year, and we get to read more the most amazing books of our lives yet in the coming year!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Welcome to Shelf Control — an original feature created and hosted by Bookshelf Fantasies.

Shelf Control is a weekly celebration of the unread books on our shelves. Pick a book you own but haven’t read, write a post about it (suggestions: include what it’s about, why you want to read it, and when you got it), and link up! For more info on what Shelf Control is all about, check out my introductory post, here.

THIS WEEK'S BOOK IS:

SYNOPSIS OF THE FIRST BOOK:

Lottie just knows that her boyfriend is going to propose, but then his big question involves a trip abroad — not a trip down the aisle. Completely crushed, Lottie reconnects with an old flame, and they decide to take drastic action. No dates, no moving in together, they’ll just get married . . . right now. Her sister, Fliss, thinks Lottie is making a terrible mistake and will do anything to stop her. But Lottie is determined to say “I do,” for better, or for worse.

Why, How and when I got it:

One day when I saw that Sophie Kinsella books in hardcovers I immediately grabbed them and out of them I read the Shopaholic series but have yet to read this one.

About ELLE GRECO

I write fiction about badass women (and the people they love). Urban Fantasy lovers will know me as Karen Greco, author of the best-selling Hell’s Belle series. My Contemporary Romance books are written under Elle Greco. While the genres are worlds apart, strong female characters are the chain that links all my worlds. These women are magical. They wield wicked weapons. They play a mean drum solo. They fall in love. They rule the boardroom and the bedroom. Whatever they do, they do it with swagger. My storytelling career began when I forced everyone play “make believe” with me when I was a kid. That eventually morphed into banging out short stories on my mom’s old manual typewriter. As I got older, I graduated to penning bad poetry, then not terrible plays as a teenager. I studied playwright in college but my career took a detour and I ended up working in journalism and then entertainment publicity, which kept me busy for 20 or so years. My “day job” has taken me from gritty rock clubs in The Bowery to glam red carpets during movie premieres and awards shows. My background working with talent (and the suits) in the industry has served me well with the LA Rock Star Romance series. A few years ago, I decided to pursue my original passion and a few full-length novels later, here we are. I love anything spooky and impossible to explain. If you love hanging out in cemeteries, the older the better, I’d totally go on a road trip with you. I have two rescue dogs, a patient husband, and an awesome kid. It was a nice day, I read them all in one day and I was getting all the Christmas cozy vibes!

I want to read this historical series this week:
