SHELF CONTROL #5 | WEEDING NIGHT BY SOPHIE KINSELLA

Welcome to Shelf Control — an original feature created and hosted by Bookshelf Fantasies.

Shelf Control is a weekly celebration of the unread books on our shelves. Pick a book you own but haven’t read, write a post about it (suggestions: include what it’s about, why you want to read it, and when you got it), and link up! For more info on what Shelf Control is all about, check out my introductory post, here.

THIS WEEK'S BOOK IS:

SYNOPSIS OF THE FIRST BOOK:

Lottie just knows that her boyfriend is going to propose, but then his big question involves a trip abroad — not a trip down the aisle. Completely crushed, Lottie reconnects with an old flame, and they decide to take drastic action. No dates, no moving in together, they’ll just get married . . . right now. Her sister, Fliss, thinks Lottie is making a terrible mistake and will do anything to stop her. But Lottie is determined to say “I do,” for better, or for worse.

Why, How and when I got it:

One day when I saw that Sophie Kinsella books in hardcovers I immediately grabbed them and out of them I read the Shopaholic series but have yet to read this one.

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? #1

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? a place to meet up and share what you have been, and are about to be reading over the week. It’s a great post to organise yourself. It’s an opportunity to visit and comment and er… add to your groaning TBR pile! So welcome in everyone. This meme started on J Kaye’s blog and then was hosted by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn here at The Book Date.

I read three Christmas novellas by Jill Shalvis this week:

(click on the cover for the Goodreads link)

It was a nice day, I read them all in one day and I was getting all the Christmas cozy vibes!

I want to read this historical series this week:

SHELF CONTROL #4 | WICKED LOVELY BY MELISSA MARR

Welcome to Shelf Control — an original feature created and hosted by Bookshelf Fantasies.

Shelf Control is a weekly celebration of the unread books on our shelves. Pick a book you own but haven’t read, write a post about it (suggestions: include what it’s about, why you want to read it, and when you got it), and link up! THIS WEEK'S BOOK IS:

SYNOPSIS OF THE FIRST BOOK:

Rule #3: Don't stare at invisible faeries.
Aislinn has always seen faeries. Powerful and dangerous, they walk hidden in the mortal world. Aislinn fears their cruelty - especially if they learn of her Sight - and wishes she were as blind to their presence as other teens.

Rule #2: Don't speak to invisible faeries.
Now faeries are stalking her. One of them, Keenan, who is equal parts terrifying and alluring, is trying to talk to her, asking questions Aislinn is afraid to answer.

Rule #1: Don't ever attract their attention.
But it's too late. Keenan is the Summer King, who has sought his queen for nine centuries. Without her, summer itself will perish. He is determined that Aislinn will become the Summer Queen at any cost — regardless of her plans or desires.

Suddenly none of the rules that have kept Aislinn safe are working anymore, and everything is on the line: her freedom; her best friend, Seth; her life; everything.

Faery intrigue, mortal love, and the clash of ancient rules and modern expectations swirl together in Melissa Marr's stunning twenty-first-century faery tale.

Why, How and when I got it:

I have been wanting to read something by this author for a long time and had even bought Grave Minder back in 2013 but I never ended up reading that one and gave it to a friend who liked that genre more so when I found these four years later in a second-hand book sale, I quickly grabbed them.

THIS WEEK'S BOOK IS:

Over in Long Dansbury, there’s always a rumour circulating about Xander – but the eligible bachelor shrugs off village gossip.
Then a rumour starts that Longbridge Hall is up for sale. Home to the eccentric Fortescues, it has dominated Long Dansbury lives for centuries.
Stella is summoned to sell the estate. But Xander grew up there. His secrets and memories are not for sale. He’ll do anything to stand in Stella’s way. Anything but fall in love.

How and when I got it:

Two or three years ago, I got this and other Freya North book while browsing in a second-hand book sale.

Why I want to read it:

I actually had never heard of the author before but when I was browsing in the second-hand book store, this book actually caught my friend's eye, and she had heard of the author so she suggested to buy it when I liked the synopsis. But I haven't picked it up yet. I'm just super slow with paperbacks.

THIS WEEK'S BOOK IS:

SYNOPSIS OF THE FIRST BOOK:

Pretty girls in pretty dresses, partying until dawn. Irresistible boys with mischievous smiles and dangerous intentions. White lies, dark secrets, and scandalous hookups. This is Manhattan, 1899. Beautiful sisters Elizabeth and Diana Holland rule Manhattan's social scene. Or so it appears. When the girls discover their status among New York City's elite is far from secure, suddenly everyone--from the backstabbing socialite Penelope Hayes, to the debonair bachelor Henry Schoonmaker, to the spiteful maid Lina Broud--threatens Elizabeth's and Diana's golden future. With the fate of the Hollands resting on her shoulders, Elizabeth must choose between family duty and true love. But when her carriage overturns near the East River, the girl whose glittering life lit up the city's gossip pages is swallowed by the rough current. As all of New York grieves, some begin to wonder whether life at the top proved too much for this ethereal beauty, or if, perhaps, someone wanted to see Manhattan's most celebrated daughter disappear... In a world of luxury and deception, where appearance matters above everything and breaking the social code means running the risk of being ostracized forever, five teenagers lead dangerously scandalous lives. This thrilling trip to the age of innocence is anything but innocent.

How and when I got it:

I got the three books in a second-hand book sale but haven't found the fourth and final book in this series yet.

Why I want to read it:

I have only read Britain based historicals until now, so I was excited to have found a historical series based in America and that too, New York but I kept on putting in on hold because of the fourth book, I just may have to buy the fourth book in ebook format and start reading this series.

I had bought this book in a second book store in hardcover years ago but still haven't gotten to reading it so this week I also bought an ebook version of it so that I divide reading between the two versions fitting to my convenience.

I have read the first two books and loved it but for some reason, I never finished reading the last two so bought the last two books in this series.

I read the first book, Sugar Daddy a long time ago and remember liking it but I didn't finish reading the series and recently I was missing Lisa Kleypas' contemporary books so got the rest of the series in ebooks as well.

I have read the first book in this series as well and since I love Julia Quinn since I read her Bridgerton series, I was missing her books and decided to finish this series!

This week it seems like I was on a mission to complete my incomplete series, hopefully, I finish reading them as well!
These are the new addition to my shelf. I would love to know about yours so comment your post links down below!

THIS WEEK'S BOOK IS:

Two clans. Only one will survive.

The only life seventeen-year-old Kol knows is hunting at the foot of the Great Ice with his brothers. But food is becoming scarce, and without another clan to align with, Kol, his family, and their entire group are facing an uncertain future.

Traveling from the south, Mya and her family arrive at Kol’s camp with a trail of hurt and loss behind them, and hope for a new beginning. When Kol meets Mya, her strength, independence, and beauty instantly captivate him, igniting a desire for much more than survival.

Then on a hunt, Kol makes a grave mistake that jeopardizes the relationship that he and Mya have only just started to build. Mya was guarded to begin with—and for good reason—but no apology or gesture is enough for her to forgive him. Soon after, another clan arrives on their shores. And when Mya spots Lo, a daughter of this new clan, her anger intensifies, adding to the already simmering tension between families. After befriending Lo, Kol learns of a dark history between Lo and Mya that is rooted in the tangle of their pasts.

When violence erupts, Kol is forced to choose between fighting alongside Mya or trusting Lo’s claims. And when things quickly turn deadly, it becomes clear that this was a war that one of them had been planning all along.

How and when I got it:

I won this pretty hardcover in a bookish box giveaway on Instagram in 2015!! I have been wanting to read it ever since then but I, unfortunately, haven't gotten to it yet.

Why I want to read it:

I actually got to know about this book by accident because of a bookish box giveaway and I really liked the synopsis then too. I am feeling reading a hardcover this week so I'm hoping to finally pick it up this week!

SHELF CONTROL #1 | ROAR BY CORA CARMACK

Welcome to Shelf Control — an original feature created and hosted by Bookshelf Fantasies.

For more info on what Shelf Control is all about, check out my introductory post, here.

This is my first time taking part in this meme. I always do waiting on wednesdays but because I don't have many books that are yet to release on my tbr, this meme seemed perfect as I'm always in need to control my shelf haha!

In a land ruled and shaped by violent magical storms, power lies with those who control them.

Aurora Pavan comes from one of the oldest Stormling families in existence. Long ago, the ungifted pledged fealty and service to her family in exchange for safe haven, and a kingdom was carved out from the wildlands and sustained by magic capable of repelling the world’s deadliest foes. As the sole heir of Pavan, Aurora’s been groomed to be the perfect queen. She’s intelligent and brave and honorable. But she’s yet to show any trace of the magic she’ll need to protect her people.

To keep her secret and save her crown, Aurora’s mother arranges for her to marry a dark and brooding Stormling prince from another kingdom. At first, the prince seems like the perfect solution to all her problems. He’ll guarantee her spot as the next queen and be the champion her people need to remain safe. But the more secrets Aurora uncovers about him, the more a future with him frightens her. When she dons a disguise and sneaks out of the palace one night to spy on him, she stumbles upon a black market dealing in the very thing she lacks—storm magic. And the people selling it? They’re not Stormlings. They’re storm hunters.

Legend says that her ancestors first gained their magic by facing a storm and stealing part of its essence. And when a handsome young storm hunter reveals he was born without magic, but possesses it now, Aurora realizes there’s a third option for her future besides ruin or marriage.

She might not have magic now, but she can steal it if she’s brave enough.

Challenge a tempest. Survive it. And you become its master.

How and when I got it:

I bought the ebook when it was released.

Why I want to read it:

I love the author's previous works and because this seemed like a new genre by her I wanted to read but haven't yet... but these days I suddenly feel like reading this one so maybe soon!

Kaylee Sloan's home in Southern California is full of wonderful memories of the woman who raised her. But the memories are prolonging her grief over her mother's recent death. A successful author, Kaylee hoped she could pour herself into her work. Instead she has terrible writer's block and a looming deadline.

Determined to escape distractions and avoid the holiday season, Kaylee borrows a cabin in Virgin River. She knows the isolation will help her writing, and as she drives north through the mountains and the majestic redwoods, she immediately feels inspired. Until she arrives at a building that has just gone up in flames. Devastated, she heads to Jack's Bar to plan her next steps. The local watering hole is the heart of the town, and once she crosses the threshold, she's surprised to be embraced by people who are more than willing to help a friend--or a stranger--in need.

Kaylee's world is expanding in ways she never dreamed possible. And when she rescues a kitten followed by a dog with a litter of puppies, she finds her heart opening up to the animals who need her. CAN'T WAIT WEDNESDAY / WAITING ON WEDNESDAY | #50 THE SUMMER DEAL (WILDSTONE, #5) BY JILL SHALVIS

Can't Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Wishful Endings to spotlight and talk about the books that we are excited about that we have yet to read. Generally, they are books that are yet to be released as well. It's based on "Waiting On" Wednesday hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine

46041445

Title: The Summer Deal (Wildstone, #5)
(Click on the title to know more about it on Goodreads.)
 Author:  Jill Shalvis
Genre: Paranormal Romance, Fantasy
Publication Date:  June 2ND, 2020

Goodreads Summary:

From New York Times bestselling author Jill Shalvis comes a friends-to-frenemies-to-sisters story… And then add in a love story (okay, two love stories). Shake. Stir. Read on a lazy summer day at the beach.

Brynn Turner desperately wishes she had it together, but her personal life is like a ping-pong match that’s left her scared and hurt after so many attempts to get it right. In search of a place to lick her wounds and get a fresh start, she heads back home to Wildstone.

And then there’s Kinsey Davis, who after battling serious health issues her entire twenty-nine years of life, is tired of hoping for . . . well, anything. She's fierce, tough, and pretty much the opposite of Brynn except for one thing: they're half-sisters. Kinsey is keeping this bombshell, and a few others as well. Long time frenemies from summer camp, there’s no way she’s going to tell Brynn they’re related.

But then Brynn runs into Kinsey's lifelong best friend, Eli, renewing a childhood crush. He’s still easy-going and funny and sexy as hell. When he gets her to agree to a summer-time deal to trust him to do right by her, no matter what, she never dreams it’ll result in finding a piece of herself she didn’t even know was missing. She could have a sister, love, and a future―if she can only learn to let go of the past.

As the long days of summer wind down, the three of them must discover if forgiveness is enough to grasp the unconditional love that’s right in front of them.

I'm waiting because...

I'm currently reading The Lemon Sisters, book three of this series and enjoying it. I'm really looking forward to more stories in this series. I'll finish reading book three and four just in time for this book too, so I'm excited!

What are you waiting on this Wednesday?
